Ecosystems and Energy

n ecosystem encompasses all the interactions among organisms living together in a particular area and between those organisms and their physi­cal environment. The interactions can be self-sustaining—that is, the ecosystem can continue to operate—only as long as energy is provided to the system. Energy flows through an ecosystem in one direction, and once it has been used by; organism, it is not available for reuse by any ism in the ecosystem.
