Facing
the Problems of Overpopulation
Even though overpopulation
is not the sole reason for world hunger, environmental problems,
under-development, poverty, and urban problems, all of those issues are
aggravated by rapid population growth. Some of the factors that
influence the fertility rate include cultural traditions, age at
marriage, availability of family planning services, government policies,
and educational opportunities, particularly for women. If population
growth is slowed and resource consumption per person is decreased, the
world will be in a better position to tackle many of its most serious
environmental problems.
