Association of the
Nematode with Other Pathogens
Pycnospores as
well as the secondary spores of a fungus (Dilophoipora alopecuri)
have been found attached to the larvae37. The larvae carried
the fungal bodies to the growing point of the wheat seedlings.
Initially, the fungal disease could not be reproduced in the absence of
nematode larvae but later it was established that the fungus can cause
the disease in wheat independently. Therefore, the nematode larvae may
probably be functioning as a vector without any obligate relationship
of the type found in the yellow ear rot disease. The disease appears to
be of minor importance, con lined to the temperate regions of the
European countries.
