Distribution

It is one of the few plant parasitic nematodes which have received world attention due to its potentiality for economic damage to many of important plant species, especially in temperate regions. Many crop growing areas, of both the hemispheres, have recorded its presence. Obviously, its spread has occurred through seed, plant material and cut flowers. Its distribution includes Algeria, Greece, U.K., U.S.A., Germany, Scandinavia, Sicily, Spain, New Zealand, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Japan and North America1,',8.

Host Range

It is known to attack over 450 plant species, under 40 odd families. Some of the plant species that are considered as favored hosts are teasel, daffodil, narcissus, tulip, hyacinth, onion, garlic, carrots, potato, sugar beet, turnip, rye, corn, Lucerne, alfalfa, phlox and strawberry.
